Call of Duty is Coming To Game Pass. Will It be Available on Cloud Gaming?

The most beloved franchise of the modern era, Call of Duty is coming to Xbox Game Pass. Microsoft boss Phil Spencer announced the future plans of Call of Duty releases today.

Spencer spoke about the release to Game File, confirming that they intend to make Activision games available on Xbox Game Pass on their first day of release:

“Our intent is the full portfolio of games from ZeniMax, Activision Blizzard and XGS — Xbox Game Studios — will be on Game Pass, day one,” Spencer said.

This means as soon as the game is released, you can play it. Pretty cool.

It is no surprise Microsoft is willing to add Call of Duty to their Game Pass service given the success of the franchise and their acquisition of Activision late last year.

Call of Duty is played by millions of gamers worldwide.

The Xbox Game Pass is a unique service that offers players the ability to access a wide variety of games for a subscription. This massively sets Xbox apart from PlayStation and Nintendo.

An even cooler feature, is the ability to stream these games over the internet with Microsoft Game Pass’ Cloud Gaming.

This feature has been growing in adoption amongst the gaming community. Some use it to trial games before downloading it, others like myself, prefer streaming the game over the internet to maintain free space on the console hard disk.

This raises the question: Will Call of Duty be available as cloud games on Xbox?

This would be a game changer for players. Many Call of Duty fans know that pain of wanting to jump on a session with your friends, only to have to wait to install a massive update.

“Our intent is the full portfolio of games from ZeniMax, Activision Blizzard and XGS — Xbox Game Studios — will be on Game Pass, day one,” Spencer said.

With Call of Duty being available as cloud games on Xbox, players won’t have to wait for updates to install as Microsoft would automatically push the latest version. This means you can jump straight into Call of Duty whenever you like and no longer have to wait for updates anymore.

While Microsoft hasn’t confirmed Call of Duty’s availability overas cloud games on Xbox, it would certainly make it a compelling offer for those on the fence between Xbox and PlayStation.

However, given the rise in popularity of the cloud games on Xbox service, it seems likely that Microsoft would spend time trying to get Call of Duty available over the streaming service.

Microsoft has also yet to confirm whether Call of Duty will be available to PC gamers over Xbox Game Pass.
